Details, Details, Details...

We have tonight and tomorrow night to get ready to go...Oh my goodness, there's so much to do! We have to get our clothes ready and we're still in sweaters, but will have to shed some layers for the temps. we're going to be in. The temps. are going to be in the 80's and 90's...much like New Orleans weather we expect. Digging out the summer attire and hoping that they fit! The one thing we won't need are clothes for the wedding. We have sent our measurements and clothes are being made for us. We are excited to see/wear them and be a part of this tradition.

Last night we got our medicine for the trip...malarone pills for malaria...we begin taking them on Friday and will continue to take them daily for up to a month after the trip. We got a prescription that will last us a week, because it's expensive here, and we can get them more inexpensively in Nigeria. Of course I am also taking ...pepto for upset stomach, cipro if we get an infection...just in case. We got our innoculations several weeks ago for yellow fever and we opted to get hepatitis A and typhoid, and Melinda had to get a Tetanus booster. Matthew had a much more expensive trip to the doctor for his shots. Evidently when you see a doctor in Massachusetts, they bill you much more than in Maine...eye opening.

So will start to put stuff in the suitcases tonight...we are allowed a lot of baggage...actually more than we expected...2 checked bags of 50 pounds each and a carry on and a backpack/purse...and because we are international, there's not extra fee I think...nowadays you have to pay for your luggage if you check it on a domestic flight. We are bringing stuff from Maine too, but couldn't find a way to get Scout the Dog in a suitcase that that long. He's staying with our friends Todd and Jemma in Blanchard for the duration of our trip. We are really grateful that they offered to house him, because otherwise, he would have to go to the kennel, and while it's a nice kennel, it's not the same as a home. Scout got references and interviewed them and gave them the thumbs up. Uncle Jimmy will provide a backup.

Well that 's all for now and I promise that the news will get a bit more exciting when we are at our destination. I'll get John to do some posts and he's a much better writer than I, and I'll get Matthew to post some photos too.

Cheers,
Melinda
